From Comox to Hollywood: Homegrown Star Brendan Fletcher’s Remarkable Rise in Showbiz

With over 130 performances in many fan favourites, he's kept the tape rolling

From his early success in Little Criminals to starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, the local actor’s career has been nothing short of remarkable.

The Comox Valley is a hub for talent and creativity.

Many people stay and continue to help this energy flourish here, while others pick it up and run with it.

That’s definitely been the case for actor Brendan Fletcher.

He’s got a ton of captivating performances and undeniable talent under his belt. After years of work, he’s carved out a name for himself in Hollywood.

Born and raised in the Valley, he attended junior high school at Lake Trail in Courtenay. But it didn’t take long for his acting ambitions to take flight.

At just 14 years old, he started his career, landing a starring role in the CBC television movie Little Criminals, earning him a Gemini Award nomination right off the bat.

This was just the beginning. Today at 43 years old, he’s acted in over 130 films and tv series.

Some of the biggest films he’s known for include The Revenant (alongside Leonardo Decaprio), Tideland, and Violent Night.

You’ve likely watched him in more than a few of your favourite TV series. He’s played characters in everything from Bates Motel, to Supernatural, and Heartlands.

Most recently, he was in the global phenomenon series The Last Of Us, where he played the first major antagonist ‘Robert’ a lying arms dealer.

He also plays the villainous elder scion Arlen Scarlett scheming against Game Warden Joe Pickett in the new series of that name.

Fletcher’s versatility as an actor is truly remarkable.

Whether playing a troubled teenager in a coming-of-age drama or a villainous character in a thrilling blockbuster, he captivates audiences with his authentic portrayals.

Canadian Director Richard Bell got to work with Fletcher for his Film “Brotherhood.”

He told Comox Valley Now that there’s a very simple reason why Fletcher has garnered so many roles over the course of his career.

“He’s such an instinctive actor, he works on instinct, and he’s a very hard worker, and he brings a depth and a sort of quiet, beautiful pain to the characters that he plays.”

His instincts have clearly served him well; through this, he’s brought Comox’s talent to the big screen.

Throughout his career, he’s won Leo, Gemini, Genie and YTV awards, among others, and many other nominations.

It’s great to see a local legend thriving, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
