Floatplane Can’t Float on a Sandbar

0/10 on that landing

“…all of a sudden, he just dropped from the sky and hit the sand bar…”

A floatplane pilot is in good shape after crash landing his plane into a sandbar near the mouth of the Campbell River.

Patti Aspden and Leslie Davidson from Campbell River were taking a walk on the Tyee Spit when they saw the plane coming in.

“We saw the plane in the distance, thought with the direction he was heading he was going to land in the river but, all of a sudden, he just dropped from the sky and hit the sand bar,” Aspden told the Campbell River Mirror.

“It jumped about six feet in the air and then landed with a crash. We heard the bang at the Spit. He was very lucky not to cartwheel.”

The Coast Guard towed the plane to the floatplane base at Tyee Spit at around 9 a.m.
